This course will prepare learners for the essay portion of the ACT. It will prepare learners to be more effective writers. They will learn guidelines to writing an expository essay. They will receive instruction on how standardized tests generally score essays and furthermore, principles to writing an accomplished essay. 

We will spend the first class discussing general principles for all accomplished essays. Learners can expect to learn about maintaining readers' interest, the three artistic proofs (ethos, logos, pathos), transitions, cohesiveness, and precise word choice.

The next 2 classes learners will learn about writing an expository essay, the same type of essay they can expect to see on the ACT.

Outside of class, learners will practice writing essays to ACT writing prompts. I will give an estimated score for their practice exam essays at the beginning and end of class to show their progress.

At the end of class, students will be better prepared to write an accomplished essay for the ACT. They will also be better prepared for writing effective essays in college.
