課堂經歷
Students will learn the basics of following a pattern, cutting fabric (felt), and hand sewing. I will guide them step-by-step through the process. In order to ensure their success, they should already be able to cut shapes with scissors and thread embroidery floss into a large needle before class. Otherwise, it would be good to have a helper nearby (offscreen per Outschool policy). Essential questions addressed by this course: *What are some ways to make needle threading easier? *How is a seam made, and why is it important to lock the stitching at the ends of most seams? *How do sewing patterns work? What are the best ways to cut out felt? Background knowledge is not required for this course, just a little patience and the desire to learn something new! It is not required for students to work on projects outside of class, but they are welcome do so if desired! Session breakdown (subject to change based on student preferences and ability level): #1: Introductions, learn how to thread a needle, cut out pattern pieces and felt, learn how to sew a running stitch, create an emoji pillow of their choice (cool shades or heart eyes). #2: Choose Cute Heart or Superstar Stuffie pattern, lay it out onto the felt. Cut, sew, stuff, and finish. #3: Choose Smiley Frog or Sweet Kitty Stuffie pattern, lay it out onto the felt. Cut, sew, stuff, and finish. #4: Free choice: choose a holiday stuffie, any pattern we have already offered, or your own design. You can use my patterns as a starting point, or create from scratch! Your first two patterns can be downloaded/printed from the classroom; you will find them under my Welcome post. Patterns for classes 2-4 are posted on the Classroom page at the end of the previous session; these should be printed before class starts.
A helper may wish to be nearby based on student's skill and/or patience level. If your student is still developing their cutting skills, it would be helpful if they could come to class with their felt pieces partially or fully cut out.

If your student is still developing their cutting skills, it would be helpful if they could come to class with their felt pieces partially or fully cut out. Students will need: *Craft felt- most felts are ok, but there are some that are made extra stiff/extra thick, and other felts that have adhesive backs. These are difficult to sew (although the adhesive ones might be ok for stick-on facial features; I've never tried them to see if they hold well). I’ve purchased from this company before, and the felt I got was pretty soft: https://tinyurl.com/ydg8wrwo . *Craft floss or heavy thread- Example: https://www.amazon.com/Mira-Handcrafts-Embroidery-Thread-Skeins/dp/B07CZ1K8LC/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=craft+floss&qid=1588023768&sr=8-6 * A big needle (big enough to easily thread) As far as the needles go, any sharp needle big enough to accommodate your big thread and pierce through two layers of felt is great (some big needles are dull, and they don't work well at all, nor do plastic needles). I've purchased these and they were fine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2NLQV8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . In addition, these look pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/Dritz-56Y-D-Darners-Needles-7-Count/dp/B003WM9RYI/ref=sr_1_22?dchild=1&keywords=sharp%2Bbig%2Beye%2Bneedles&qid=1591035439&sr=8-22&th=1 * A pair of scissors that comfortably cuts felt (Note that I'm saying "comfortably" in reference to the needle and scissors-- it can be super frustrating to the students if their tools are uncooperative; it's good to test things out in advance!) Lightweight adult scissors, such as the ones seen here (https://www.amazon.com/Scissors-Titanium-Multipurpose-Comfort-Grip-Handles/dp/B07H3QKN2Z/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=scissors&qid=1585833719&sr=8-5), are pretty good craft scissors and should cut felt well (some age better than others). Other brands include Fiskars and Westcott. *Transparent tape, such as Scotch tape for cutting out pattern pieces- tracing them with pencil or chalk is fine too *Pillow stuffing/Poly-fill (Amazon link for reference: https://goo.gl/oJihau ) or shredded soft fabric *White craft or felt glue (Aleene's is my favorite; Amazon link here: https://goo.gl/1q8w6G). White school glue is not as desirable because it is quite a bit thinner and the felt will not stick to itself as well. A more advanced student may opt to sew the facial pieces together and onto the body before stuffing.

教師專業知識和證書
I started sewing doll clothes by hand before kindergarten. Hand sewing is an extremely useful skill, and sadly it isn't part of the curriculum in most schools. I will show your student that creating things by hand can be fun and easy. They will learn (without realizing it) how important it is to follow directions, to go through all of the steps, and to use a basic pattern as a starting point for creativity.
