We will read, explore, and discuss The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Students will then be tasked with solving a problem: how can we help the Itsy Bitsy Spider stay on top of the waterspout? We will learn and follow the Engineer Design Process (Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve). We will discuss how we can build a spider web at the top of a waterspout, choose materials to use, draw a plan, create and test it out, and make improvements (or challenge ourselves to build on a taller waterspout)....
Students will enjoy and relate to literature. Students will learn about and follow the Engineer Design Process. Students will use creativity and ingenuity to solve a problem. Students will persevere when faced with a challenge.
As a children’s author and illustrator, as well as elementary school teacher, I enjoy teaching young learners the process of creative thinking and problem-solving that is meaningful and reflects their own interests.
