課堂經歷
Students will learn writing techniques through activities and discussion. We'll look at examples of figurative language, compelling opening lines, dynamic characters, and other elements of fiction. They'll participate in some in-class writing, but the majority of our class time will be spent learning new skills to be used for their weekly assignment. Students will acquire the skills to turn their stories into literary masterpieces. They'll stretch their creativity while learning to use setting, plot, and character development in a variety of genres. They'll also come away with an understanding of publishing and how to become an author.
As a Young Adult author, I've travelled to schools all over the U.S. discussing my books, publishing, and creative writing with students. I've also taught high school English and elementary school. Kids have extraordinary creative gifts--imagination, fearlessness, tenacity--and I love being a part of their development.
I provide the syllabus and learning materials. Students don't need to purchase anything. Students may write their stories on the computer or by hand--I know authors who do both! If they're assignments are completed by hand they can take pictures (or scan) and send them to me.
