The course, Story Writing 102: Writing in Different Genres, builds on the writing activities completed in Story Writing 101: The Parts of a Story. In Story Writing 102: Writing in Different Genres, young writers will receive instruction on the six different genres of fiction—realistic, historical, mystery, adventure, fantasy, and science fiction. After reviewing the unique characteristics of each genre, a questionnaire will be completed by each student using their original story elements from...
1) Students will be introduced to the literary terms protagonist, antagonist, secondary characters, first-person point of view, third-person point of view, tone, conflict, climax, and resolution/confusion. 2) Students will read, analyze, and examine characteristics of realistic fiction, historical fiction, mystery, adventure, fantasy, and science fiction genres. 3) Students will complete a questionnaire that examines potential characters, settings, points of view, plots, and conclusions for each fiction genre. 4) Students will select a genre and complete story planning sheets for their original story using the elements created in Story Writing 101: Parts of a Story.
