課堂經歷

Welcome to Steve Spangler's STEM Camp! Join television host and science celebrity Steve Spangler for his amazing week-long STEM Camp experience filled with wonder, discovery and exploration. If your young scientist learns best by doing, this camp experience will provide them with hours of hands-on learning guaranteed to boost creativity, strengthen critical thinking skills and fuel their love of learning.

*** SPECIAL NOTE - Included in the registration price is a special STEM Camp kit from Steve Spangler. The kit includes gizmos, gadgets and hands-on science materials to conducts the experiments featured each day. Upon registration you will be directed to a website to enter your shipping address, so we can send you the STEM Science kit. You will receive the kit about a week prior to the start of the course.

The week-long camp meets for 1 hour each day with lots of opportunity for students to ask questions and interact with Steve. Each day is focused on a new and exciting theme with experiences that engage the students in experiments and challenges that reinforce the key science and engineering concepts of the day. Best of all, the students get to open a new bag of materials each day from their STEM Camp kit to use as they conduct the activities in real-time with Steve.

Daily activities:

Day 1 – TEST TUBE ADVENTURES
Roll up your sleeves and get ready to turn your kitchen countertop into a STEM lab complete with test tubes, safety glasses and some special surprises. Explore the science of physical and chemical reactions, color-changing liquids and bubbling solutions. Uncover the art and science of color mixing, density and carbon dioxide powered chemistry as your young scientist makes their own test tube lava lamp. Don’t be surprised if you hear screams of excitement erupting from the kitchen. That’s called making science fun.

Day 2 – ENERGY, ELECTRICITY & ELECTRONS (oh my)
How could something so tiny be so amazing? Welcome to the electron party! Experiment with circuits using a device that tests the flow of electrons through wires, liquids and other things that conduct electricity. You’ll also learn how to use electrons to make objects mysteriously move across the table and float through the air. Uncover the differences between insulators and conductors as you test the way electrons flow through different things. Get ready to turn your own body into a human conductor of electricity… and it’s perfectly safe!

Day 3 – BUBBLEOLOGY
You will not believe what you can do with bubbles after you learn about the amazing science of soap. Use the scientific method to test and compare bubble solutions that turn ordinary bubbles into super-strong bubbles you can touch and bounce. You’ll even uncover the secret to making a square bubble. It’s the perfect combination of art and science.

Day 4 – WATER MAGIC
Imagine being able to make a glass of water disappear with a snap of your fingers. What if you could make a jar of water defy gravity when you turn it upside down, or turn liquid water into ice in a split second? Uncover why scientists believe water is the most amazing liquid in the world as you conduct experiments that explore the science of surface tension, density and absorbency. Perform science magic tricks, puzzles and mind-bending challenges all based on the science of water. Be careful… you just might become a science magician!

Day 5 – NEWTON’S ANTICS
Sir Isaac Newton may be most famous for being knocked on the head by a falling apple. Whether that story is true or not, one thing is certain… the world of science was forever changed by Newton’s scientific discoveries. The hands-on experiments and challenges featured in this class explore the science behind Newton’s First Law of Motion. Explore the science of inertia to better understand how and why objects move the way they do. Get ready for things to fling, fly, twist and drop as you perform experiments that would make Sir Isaac Newton proud.

Steve Spangler is a masterful teacher who has the ability to create experiences that engage and connect with his students on a whole new level. Don’t be surprised if your young scientist spends hours after class each day re-imagining the concepts they learned in an effort to create something of their own they can’t wait to share with Steve the very next day.

Here's what past participants had to say about Steve Spangler's STEM Camp...

My son kept telling me how much he was loving everything and how amazing it was to meet one of his idols. In a time where everything has been so uncertain and so much fun has been canceled, you have brought so much joy to our family!
Lauren and Tanner S. – Parents

As a scientist myself, I am loving seeing all of the engagement and the interactions the kids get with Steve. Experience of a lifetime.
Wendy J. – Parent

Thank you so much for making learning fun and reigniting the learning flame for my son. I know it sounds silly, but it warmed my heart when I heard him ask a question – I could see and hear his confidence!
Tamara L. – Parent

Steve’s love of STEM is topped only by his genuine love for children. He challenges them to seek solutions, instead of providing ready answers. Steve teaches the kids that STEM goes beyond science. No one presents a science concept like Steve.
Tara M. – Grandparent

Even in a Zoom setting, Steve makes every child feel noticed and special. He praises every child and builds them up. Steve mentors the next generation of scientists, instilling both a sense of wonder and engaging showmanship. His love of teaching and of children is real and palpable.
Terry M. – Parent
學習目標
Learners will develop their critical thinking skills, engage in the scientific method and test their hypotheses through hands-on experiments that explore these concepts...

- States of matter / air pressure / Bernoulli's Principle
- Electricity / conductors / insulators / static electricity
- Surface tension / properties of water
- Chemical vs. physical reactions
- Environmental polymers / absorbency
- Density
- Color mixing
- Newton's Laws of Motion / Inertia
- Scientific inquiry / scientific method / design engineering / critical thinking skills / creativity

The activities and learning experiences in this course help to reinforce the core skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. Each of the hands-on experiments are purposely designed to encourage the student to extend their learning by asking new questions that lead to additional experimentation with new moments of discovery. Steve builds his lessons on the 5E learning model - Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. This planned sequence of instruction places students at the center of learning.

The #1 question we get from parents is... Is this going to be messy? No, don't worry. All of the experiments and activities can be conducted at the kitchen countertop or on a table. We suggest that you have a roll of paper towel or a few kitchen towels close by to wipe up spilled water. That brings up the second most asked question... Where is the best place to set-up our lab? Judging from photos that parents share, most students use the kitchen countertop as their place of learning. It's a good idea to place your computer laptop or tablet device on something that will keep it dry and out of harms way. What can YOU do to help support your young scientist? The hardest part of your job is NOT to do the experiments for your young scientist. Oh, we know the temptation is going to be great. You’re going to want to get in there and do it yourself… but don’t. Wait until the scientist goes to bed and then you can play with the goodies in the STEM Camp kit. Most importantly, if you are enthusiastic about exploration and scientific discovery, your enthusiasm is bound to be contagious.
供應清單
YOUR REGISTRATION INCLUDES A STEM CAMP KIT!

That's right, Steve will be sending you a box of materials for your young scientist to use throughout the entire week of camp. This box of materials is required to conduct the experiments and activities featured in this course. After you register for the course, you will be given a link to a form where you can enter your shipping information (no extra charge) so we can send you the kit.

In addition to the special supplies included in your kit, here are the “You-Get-It” items that you’ll need for camp sometime during the week. Please don’t stress… this is all common stuff you’ll find around the house.

•	Pitcher or container of water (every day)
•	Paper towel (every day)
•	Scissors (every day)
•	Empty bowl (everyday) Just to have on hand to clean up any spills.
•	Metal spoon
•	Penny
•	Index card or old business card
•	Bucket of water - Think about a bucket that you would use to wash your car. Your young scientist will fill the bucket with soapy water to use on the third day - Bubbleology.
•	Your favorite dish soap - We’ve found the Dawn to work well, but your young scientist can use whatever you have at home to wash dishes. The kit comes with two kinds of soap to try, but Steve will suggest that your young scientist try the soap that they use at home.
