課堂經歷

Literacy centers are an exciting, self-motivational way to enhance, develop, or extend learning within a classroom. At literacy centers, students work alone or interact with one another using teacher-provided instructional materials to explore and expand on their learning. This learning style is defined as "Direct Learning;" A Directed Learning Activity (DLA) is an exercise developed by an educator that students complete to gain more practice on a concept or skill introduced. Small-group instruction allows for a more effective type of strategic coaching. Strategic coaching is one of the key elements distinguishing high-achieving classrooms from those with moderate or low performances.

Students will be placed into groups on the first day of class, and after provided instruction, they will go to group break-out rooms to complete assigned tasks. Students will complete four literacy tasks in each class that exercises reading, grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills. Students will receive 15 minutes to perform each task, allowing for 15 minutes for the teacher to provide instructions at the begining of each class. Along with providing instruction, the teacher will monitor the students and provide assistance throughout the duration of the class. 

Students will receive an invitation to a google document that contains the worksheets they need. See the detailed outlines for the current month below. The teacher will post reminders in the "Outschool Classroom Portal" 24 hours before each class that notifies which worksheets the students need to print. The students are expected to have the worksheets printed prior to when class begins.

Students will receive worksheets on a need-to-come basis through a shared google document. When enrolled, students will receive an invitation to a google document that will contain the worksheets they need for each class. The teacher will post reminders in the "Outschool Classroom Portal" 24 hours before each class that notify which worksheets the students need to print. The students are expected to have the worksheets printed prior to when class begins. Students will also need to come to class with a pencil, eraser, and extra paper.
