The ongoing social skills group for students with autism (ages 9-12) will be taught using visual examples and by interacting with students. I will use slides with words and pictures and video clips. Students will be encouraged to practice the skills taught that day by interacting with other students in the class. Topics will be different each week. Weekly Topics include: Meeting 1: Facial expressions. Meeting 2: Tone of voice. Meeting 3: Saying "no" politely. Meeting 4: Saying what you mean. Meeting 5: How to not hurt feelings. Meeting 6: People different than you. Meeting 7: Opinions of others. Meeting 8: The right time. Meeting 9: Feelings of others. Meeting 10: Choices. Meeting 11: The Right Thing. Meeting 12: Help! Meeting 13: Being Patient. Meeting 14: A Good Sport. Meeting 15: Help Others Meeting 16: Think of Others Meeting 17: Lead Meeting 18: Compliment Others Meeting 19: Apologize and Accept Blame Meeting 20: Organize Meeting 21: Manage Your Jobs Meeting 22: Happy Box Meeting 23: Emotions Thermometer Meeting 24: Emotions Scales Meeting 25: Stay Calm Meeting 26: Solve Problems Meeting 27: Talk To Others Meeting 28: Deal With Mistakes Meeting 29: When Work Is Hard Meeting 30: Try Something New Class structure: Teacher will have a short presentation at the beginning of class with visuals and video clips. Students will be given time to interact and role play on topic of the day. Games will be incorporated when time allows. Final minutes will be "free talk". I teach enthusiastically and energetically. My goal is to help each learner achieve a milestone specific for the learner. Feel free to message me with any concerns or questions or to give me information that might be helpful in helping your child reach an individual milestone. There is not a prerequisite class to this group.

I am a parent of a child who was diagnosed with high functioning autism when she was 8 years old. She is now 25 years old. I have a passion for helping children in the autistic spectrum reach individual goals. I have a Master's Degree in elementary education. I led a support group for parents of children in the autistic spectrum for almost three years. I have also had experience teaching social skills classes to children in the autistic spectrum. I have attended an Autism/Asperger Conference and a Sensory Processing Disorder and Young Children workshop. As a parent of a child in the autistic spectrum, I have learned a lot about helping my child learn socialization skills on a daily basis, and I would be honored to work with your child to help them learn to navigate the social world we in which we live.評論
