Students will hear stories from Slavic folklore featuring Baba Yaga. We will discuss whether or not she is helpful or harmful (depends on who you are and what mood you may find her in.) We will talk about where she lives, how she travels, who her associates are, and more. I will open the class by asking students whether or not they have ever heard of Baba Yaga. If anyone has heard of her and would like to share what they know, they will be given an opportunity to do so at this time. After...
Students will learn about and discuss Baba Yaga as featured in Slavic folklore.
I have taken several online courses about folklore and mythology. I also have an extensive collection of folklore storybooks and folklore theory books. I have taught and currently teach folklore, mythology, literature, poetry, and history classes. In these classes, we sometimes deal with violent concepts or imagery. Any discussions of violence will be handled appropriately and within the folkloric content of this class.

In folklore stories, Baba Yaga has been known to cook and eat children and this will be discussed in the class.
