Students will be taught the fundamentals of fractions. Lessons are structured through teacher direction instruction, and students are given opportunities to ask questions or gain clarification throughout. Through collaboration and guidance, students will gain confidence through the "I do," "We do," "You do" method and be able to use knowledge to independently solve problems. 

Topics include, but are not limited to: 

- Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering. 

- Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators.

- Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.

- Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way.

- Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators. 

- Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole and having like denominators. 

- Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number. 

- Understand decimal notation for fractions, and compare decimal fractions.
