Students will be lead through explicit and systematic lessons using the Heggerty program. Phonemic Awareness is the ability to hear the smallest unit of a sound in words and to manipulate those sounds. This class is both auditory and oral. Words are not shown in print. At the end of each class I will use alphabet flashcards to introduce letters briefly to begin to help students connect what they are hearing orally to decoding sounds in print. - Your child will have experience with the following skills; *Differentiating words that rhyme from words that don’t rhyme *Producing a rhyming word *Identifying initial sounds in words *Blending syllables to create words *Hearing final sounds in words *Segmenting syllables *Hear the middle sound in words *Blending three individual sounds to create a word *Segmenting individual sounds to break apart a word *Adding sounds to a word part to create a word *Changing sounds from a whole word to create a new word
I have used this program for about 3 years in my role as literacy intervention teacher in the public school I’m currently in. I’m a certified teacher and have 10 years of experience. I’ve taught grade 1 and have subbed in K-6 classrooms.
Assessment
頻率: 包括細節: A brief assessment will be administered within the first few classes with your child to inform my teaching and to establish a baseline. I want your child to feel comfortable with me before I assess him/her so that the results are accurate. I will do another assessment when we’re about 17 weeks through the program. A final assessment will be done around week 30.
This class is most effective for students who are entering pre-k or K.
