Welcome to Shoe Factory Spreadsheet Murder Mystery - Learn Excel While Solving a Mystery! This is a 5 week class where we solve puzzles to figure out who did it, with new data and suspects every week. In this class we will learn all about Microsoft Excel while solving puzzles, sorting through data, and eliminating suspects. Each module includes slides and an Excel sheet of data to sort through. Students will learn how to use Microsoft Excel formulas while playing a fun and challenging mystery game.
I love teaching programming and data analysis using fun and interesting examples because it helps students go farther than learning hard to contextualize concepts. Understanding what we are doing and why means that students will be able to apply algebraic concepts (like x+y) having understood examples like (red bike + blue bike) in a way that has context and meaning. I have taught Excel to hundreds of college students and learners of all ages. In data analysis, Excel is often the first step to exploring data and figuring things out.
You will need a computer with Microsoft Excel on PC or Mac. Any version of Excel from 2016 onwards that can use .xlsx files should work. A keyboard and mouse are strongly recommended. It may be possible to complete the course using Google Sheets, but some features may not work properly.

A recent version of Excel is required for this class, all formulas should work with Excel 2016 onwards. Shared files are shared with Sync, no login is required. You will need a computer with Microsoft Excel on PC or Mac. A keyboard and mouse are strongly recommended. Spreadsheets and slides are provided each week in addition to solutions.
