課堂經歷

Welcome to the Shockingly Grim World of Grimm's Fairy Tales, where it gets rather...grim. Sure, they're called fairy tales, but don't think Disney. Think Tim Burton. You can see the stories below and how I would rank them on the "Grim(m) Scale" (1-5).

This self-paced class includes six lessons, with each lesson being devoted to one fairy tale and one writing activity. (Lesson 7 is a final exam.)
***There are no scheduled meetings on Zoom!***

WHAT'S INCLUDED:
🎥 - 18 Lesson Videos (6 Story Videos full of discussion and commentary, 6 Discussion Questions videos, 6 Writing Activity Videos)
📝 - 6 Sets of Discussion Questions
✍️ - 6 Writing Activities
📝 - 6 Organizers for Brainstorming
🧑‍💻 - 1 Final Exam

📢 -TEACHER FEEDBACK! 👩‍🏫
Even though you’re completing these lessons on your own, I’m just a message away!
Consider me on-call while you're enrolled in this class. Expect responses for every post submitted. Unless I'm teaching a class or sleeping, expect a prompt reply.
Want some help on your writing assignment? Message me!
Link not working? Message me!
Want to tell me about your day? Sure, message me!

Each lesson has three main components and will contain three videos. Expect feedback from me along the way. If you post something, you WILL get a response. Please watch the class intro video on this page for an idea of what to expect from my videos to see if we're a good fit!
Just for fun:
You'll start with a virtual bookshelf and with each lesson you complete, I'll add a book, giving you a full bookshelf of Grimm stories at the end of the course.

Let's break things down...

-VIDEO ONE: The Story 📚
You'll start with a lesson video. I'll be showing you some images before we start the story and have you predict what it might be about. Then listen to the story and follow along on screen as I read. We have plenty to discuss in these tales, so I'll be pausing along the way and adding my own commentary to lighten the mood. I'll also be pointing out some unfamiliar vocabulary. You are welcome to comment questions and opinions in a comment under the video--or if you want to say, "What did I just read?!"

-VIDEO TWO: Discussion Questions❓
After each story, I'll have five discussion questions for you. Download the handout, or simply add your answers in a comment. Then you can check out the answers in a video from me. Please add any additional questions you may have, and we'll discuss them!

-VIDEO THREE: Writing Activity ✏️
Your final video will explain the writing activity. Each story will have its own writing assignment. Expect topics like, write an alternate ending, change the point of view, write your own fairy tale, and more! I've included a graphic organizer tailored to each writing assignment to help you brainstorm your ideas.
FINAL STEP: Share 📖
Post your writing, but only if you want to share it! Expect some personalized feedback if you decide to post something.

Grimm's Fairy Tales are dark. While these are some of the tamer ones, some of the stories include violence, death, and deception. However, the descriptions of these acts aren't detailed, but rather plainly stated. In the end, the stories are meant to teach a lesson. All of these tales are available online, if you'd like to preview the titles beforehand. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/2591/2591-h/2591-h.htm Common Core State Standards (expanded) Reading Literature RL: 1-7 Key Ideas and details 1.
