To facilitate feedback, it is best for learners to post their images under classroom posts rather than sending them as messages. *IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE: This is the second course in the Self-Paced Creative Photography Class Series. Students must complete Level 1 Class before enrolling in this class. In Level 2, students will build on the foundational skills acquired in Level 1, delving deeper into the art and science of photography. This engaging 6-week course will enhance their ability to discuss and critique photographs while exploring new techniques and concepts. Throughout this class, students will: - Discuss and Analyze: Students will sharpen their photographic critique skills, learning to articulate their thoughts on subject, lighting, and composition as they share their own work in a supportive environment. - Explore Photography's History: We will delve into the evolution of photography, contrasting film and digital formats. Students will have hands-on experience using various cameras, including Instafilm or disposable options, fostering creative experimentation. - Create Visual Variety: Students will learn to plan and execute a photoshoot featuring their favorite subjects, emphasizing the importance of visual variety within a series of images. - Introduction to Editing: Basic editing techniques will be introduced, including exposure, color balance, contrast, and black-and-white conversion. Students will practice editing and explore how to capture images that lend themselves well to black-and-white formats. - Engage in Collaborative Editing: Students will have the opportunity to make their own edits of the teacher's photos and have the teacher edit one of their photos. They will focus on the balance between initial photography choices and post-processing adjustments. - Participate in Challenges: The course will culminate in fun challenge rounds, where students will apply their skills in creative ways. They are encouraged to use their favorite subjects, ideally a living model, for interactive challenges. This course is led by Erika Hatfield, who brings expertise and enthusiasm to every lesson. Students will feel empowered to explore their creativity while developing their unique photographic voice. This self-paced format caters to diverse schedules and allows students to learn at their own speed while still benefiting from dedicated teacher interaction. While there are no live Zoom sessions, students can engage with pre-recorded demonstrations that illustrate key concepts, alongside visual presentations that enhance understanding. Learners will pause to take photos while watching video lessons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES This class is the first in a comprehensive series aimed at building photography skills over time. It consists of three levels: - Level 1: 4 Weeks - Level 2: 6 Weeks - Level 3: 8 Weeks Altogether, this series comprises an 18-week semester course designed to provide a robust photography education. Level 4 and 5 classes coming soon in 2025! Formats Available All courses are offered in both live Zoom sessions and self-paced formats, catering to a wide age range: 6-10 years, 10-13 years, and 13-18 years.

Talking about photos
In our first session, students will introduce themselves and share their favorite photography subjects. They’ll have the chance to present any photos taken since the last class and will review key concepts from Level 1, focusing on subject, lighting, composition, and creativity while critiquing photographs together.

Film photography
Students will explore the evolution of photography, discussing the differences between film and digital formats. They will photograph using an Instafilm or disposable camera, if available, while those using phones or regular cameras should bring paper and tape or Post-its for creative experimentation.

Planning a photo shoot
In this lesson, students will learn about the creative process behind a photoshoot. They will plan their own photoshoot featuring subjects they enjoy, focusing on how to create visual variety in a series of images capturing the same subject or group.

Intro to editing
Students will be introduced to basic editing techniques, including exposure, color balance, contrast, and black-and-white conversion. They will have the opportunity to edit provided images and have the instructor edit one of their photos. Learners will practice capturing photos suitable for black-and-white editing.
