An introduction to the Blending Board activity will be included in this lesson with some materials and instructions on how to create your own blending board to practice with at home.Week 3Lesson 3Using Dictation to Strengthen the Closed SyllableIn this lesson learners will apply their knowledge of the closed syllable to write words and sentences.Week 4Lesson 4Irregular High Frequency Words that Break the Closed Syllable RuleIn this lesson learners will be introduced to orthographic mapping and how it can help them remember rule breakers or irregular pronunciations for the closed syllable.

In my 28+ years of teaching I have been trained in all kinds of different ways to teach students to read. This most recent method of teaching students to understand how and why letters make different sounds when put with other letters and placed in certain parts of the words has completely changed my way of thinking. I have seen huge gains in the students I work with in my brick and mortar school by teaching students the syllable types and how those syllable types work together to make bigger words.
