Students in this class build nonfiction (informational) reading skills, strategies, comprehension, and confidence as we work with a new Science-themed article each class. Science themes connect to various disciplines including Zoology, Ecology, Conservation, Physical Geography, and Environmental Science. This class is for Science-loving readers age 9+ who can already read 1-2 page non-fiction articles at or above a grade 6 level (either independently or with only a moderate amount of...
Students will: -learn key science vocabulary, concepts, and information -apply reading strategies -improve reading speed -improve comprehension and retention -gain skill and confidence explaining science content to others -increase confidence and enjoyment when reading non-fiction
A copy of the weekly reading and learning guide provided.
Most articles in this class are found on websites such as the National Geographic Educational Resources and others. I will provide links to the articles during class. Articles are from websites that are free to access and there is no need to sign up for an account. There may be ads associated with some of the articles. The ads that appear on your learner's screen may be different than those on mine. If ads become an issue at any time, please let me know. Thanks!
