Welcome to Rockin' Writers! In this class, we will work through Common Core writing standards. Most classes will have a direct instruction mini lesson, student work time, and sharing out of student work. Students will be encouraged to contribute to class conversations and work in partners frequently to practice peer editing skills. We believe in creating a classroom community where all students feel valued and safe to make mistakes and celebrate each other's successes. Our teaching style is "I do, we do, you do." Through this method, we will guide student learning to meet each learner where they are at and differentiate their learning. 

Students will be writing in every class ultimately creating longer writing pieces and presenting them to our class utilizing creative publishing options. Students should come to class prepared with their materials (including previous writing work) and ready to learn in an environment with limited distractions around them.

This class is a combo class of 3rd and 4th grade so we will alternate writing projects between 3rd and 4th grade projects with adaptations made accordingly to ensure all learners are being appropriately challenged in each project.

Introduce explanatory writing

Brainstorming and preplanning writing
Begin rough draft

Week 7:
Finish rough drafts focusing on transitions
Edit/revise drafts

Week 8: 
Final Drafts
