課堂經歷
This course is 6 weeks long; one for each region of the United States, plus a week for Alaska, Hawaii, Washington DC, and US Territories. This is a flexible schedule class. Information and tasks will be posted on Mondays and due by Fridays. The purpose of this course is to supplement fourth grade U.S. geography lessons. However, it will also work well for a third-grade learner who has some geography skills or a fifth-grade learner who could benefit from some review. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Basic map skills are essential to understanding the material. (I offer "Map Skills for Beginners" and a follow-up class, "Geography for Elementary Students," that could be taken before this course or simultaneously at the beginning of this course if needed.) 2. Students should have basic familiarity with the 50 United States. They do not need to have every state memorized before taking this class, but they should know where several of the states are. CLASS STRUCTURE: Every Monday, I will post information on the week's region. Posts will begin with "Week #, Post #" in order to make them easier to follow. They will be scheduled to appear in the classroom at 9:00 am Eastern Time every Monday morning so that learners have plenty of time to get everything done. Students will be assigned activities and interaction with classmates such as review games, comments, video posts, and more. Learners will also be assigned a mini-project weekly that they can upload pictures of or do video presentations of. Learners will be expected to look at classmates' projects and comment on them or ask questions about other learners' projects. I also offer a live version of this class (2x/week, 6 weeks). CLASS CONTENT: Week 1: Northeast Region Week 2: Southeast Region Week 3: Midwest Region Week 4: Southwest Region Week 5: West Region Week 6: Alaska, Hawaii, Washington DC, and US Territories SUPPLIES NEEDED: Students will complete one mini-project per week. For each project, I will either send them a website to use or they will need basic school/office supplies such as paper, markers, scissors, glue, a printer, etc. COURSE INFORMATION: This course was designed to be part of a group of courses. Please see my other U.S. Geography-related courses to continue learning about it! -Fun Review of U.S. States and Their capitals (a Kahoot! class) -Geography for Elementary Students -Map Skills for Beginners

教師專業知識和證書
As of February 18, 2022, I will only be teaching flexible schedule classes.
EXPERIENCE: I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2010 and have been teaching ever since. I have an Ohio teaching license that includes PreK - Grade 5 plus TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) for K-12. I taught in public schools from 2010 to 2017, which included substitute teaching then teaching reading and math in a primary school. In 2017, I began teaching online full time.
ENGLISH CLASSES: When I teach English, my style is to teach it in a natural way, without forcing my students to do grammar drills or memorize. Instead, they acquire the English language by using it. (I use the Communicative Approach to language teaching.) I use a variety of resources in my lessons so that my students are exposed to English in many contexts. My classes focus on reading and speaking skills.
LITERATURE AND GEOGRAPHY: I love reading, geography, and travel, so I teach courses based on these topics as well. I try to take common interests and help students learn from them. My teaching style is relaxed. I hope all learners will feel comfortable in my classes. In my book discussion groups, I always have one topic of the day and give students free time to discuss the topic, then I have questions ready to further guide discussion.
PERSONAL: To introduce myself personally, I am married and live in Ohio. My hobbies include going to restaurants, walking with friends, running, traveling and reading, and I also love trying new things. My second language is Spanish, and I am currently learning Japanese.
COMMUNICATION: I strive to respond to messages in a timely manner. During the week, I will respond within 24 hours, usually much less. Depending on my schedule, I may not be able to respond directly before class. Please send a message to support@outschool.com if you need help accessing the classroom.
