In this class, we will continue to explore new sounds in the Phase 5 of Phonics. Phase 5 introduces nineteen new graphemes: ay, ou, ie, ea, oy, ir, ue, aw, wh, ph, ew, oe, au, ey, a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e. We will also learn the letter names and continue to consolidate the sounds learnt in Phases 2, 3 & 4. The lessons will be structured in the following way: 1. Students will continue on their phonological journey and develop their skills to begin reading polysyllabic words and new sight words. They will also work on improving their reading fluency.
I have been teaching phonics under different schemes such as Jolly Phonics, Read Write Inc and Letters and Sounds for the past 5 years in different schools in the UK, as well as a one on one (face to face and online) tutor. During my 15 years of experience as a teacher, I have worked with children for whom English is not their first language as well as with children diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia.
