In this class, students will engage in oral reading selections at their instructional level in a structured manner that gauges fluency, vocabulary, contextual understanding and comprehension skills. Students will take on the role of a reading detective searching for clues about academic vocabulary, drawing meaning from context clues, generalizing facts across the stories, prediction skills and being able to justify their answers using references within the text. - Students skills will include the following areas: oral reading fluency in authentic text reading, identifying story components (theme, setting, character development, morals), literary types, vocabulary, contextual components, comprehension skills and summation of text.
