Overview: In this unit, students will explore the fundamental elements of fiction through engaging and interactive lessons. They will build a strong schema for understanding story structure by identifying, comparing, and contrasting key literary elements across different texts. This unit aims to enhance students’ comprehension and analytical skills, fostering a deeper appreciation for storytelling. Learning Objectives: -I can identify the character, setting, problem, events, and solution in a story. -I can talk, write, or draw about the elements of a story. -I can compare two stories with similar elements. By the end of this unit, students will have a solid understanding of story structure and the ability to compare and contrast different literary works, preparing them for more advanced literary analysis. Informal Assessment will be included with each lesson. It will consist of students completing the given activity sheets and then sending me a picture of their completed work if feedback is desired within the 3 weeks of the course. I am also available through the classroom or messaging should you and/or your student need anything! Lesson 1 Identify story elements: Mother Bruce (Higgins)
Students will begin by identifying the basic story elements such as characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution in the humorous tale of Mother Bruce. This lesson will lay the groundwork for understanding how these elements contribute to the overall narrative. 1 作業

Lesson 2 Compare Story Elements: Alan’s Big, Scary, Teeth (Jarvis)
Building on the previous lesson, students will compare the story elements of Alan’s Big, Scary, Teeth with those in Mother Bruce. They will analyze similarities and differences in characters, settings, and plot structures, enhancing their ability to compare and contrast literary works. 1 作業

Lesson 3 Notice how author’s change elements: The Turnip (Brett)
In the final lesson, students will examine how Jan Brett alters traditional story elements in her retelling of The Turnip. They will discuss how these changes affect the story’s impact and meaning, encouraging them to think critically about the author’s creative choices. 1 作業

This class is designed to be differentiated for multiple age and ability levels which also makes it great for students with specific learning disabilities in reading.

You will be provided with links that are hosted on YouTube to each of my video lessons. They are set to 'made for kids' so that only appropriate ads will be shown if any.
