課堂經歷

Learners (ages 8-12) will read aloud a story about an art school in class.  They will learn note-taking strategies and use a book report organizer to write a book report.

In this class, students will:
1.  Identify the title and author of the chapter book, "Artists in Training."
2.  Name the "genre" of the chapter book as "nonfiction."
3.  Locate the Table of Contents.
4.  Pronounce and define vocabulary words:  skill, commitment, permission, pottery, unique, easel, kiln, welding, torch, debut, recording studio, flamenco, mural, canvas, triumph, sculpture, graphic artist, designer
5.  Use a book report organizer to take notes and record information as they read the text.
6.  Describe the "main idea" and "details" of a text.
7.  Compare and contrast similarities and differences between "facts" and "opinions."
8.  Use information from the book report organizer to write a book report.

Before they enroll in this class, students should be able to:
* identify the title and author of a text.
* describe differences between fiction and nonfiction.
* read with understanding and fluency.
* decode unknown words in context.
* recognize word patterns (prefixes and suffixes).
* write in complete sentences.
* recall events from a written text.
