A Christmas Carol is a classic book and great story for the holiday seasons.  Having been made in to MANY movies, TV specials and the like it is a story retold over and over again.  Written in the mid 1800s the author was talking to a generation with different experiences and values than we have now making it harder to understand for some learners. 

With this live discussion we will be able to talk about any parts of the book the learners don't understand.  As time allows we may read some of the story together during the class, I will do some of the reading as well as offer it to any learners who want to read aloud.

There will be prepared questions for me to ask, however there will be no preconceived ideas forced on the reader and I will encourage the learners to share their thoughts, whatever they might be.  I am a firm believer in the idea of art and reading being to bring your own experiences and views to the work.  

Classes will generally break-down as follows:

Class 1: Get familiar with Dickens and the time period so they are a little more prepared for the differences they may see in their everyday life, as time allows we may start reading some of the book together at this time.

Class 2: Learners will be expected to have finished the first chapter if we did not during the class, discussion and questions answered for this chapter as well as start on the second chapter.

Class 3: Learners will be expected to have finished the second chapter if we did not during the class, discussion and questions answered for this chapter as well as start on the third chapter.

Class 4: Learners will be expected to have finished the third chapter if we did not during the class, discussion and questions answered for this chapter as well as start on the fourth chapter.

Class 5: Learners will be expected to have finished the fourth chapter if we did not during the class, discussion and questions answered for this chapter as well as start on the last chapter.

Class 6: Finish the book and discussion of the story, how we feel after reading the story and other questions.  As time allows we may preview some of the movies made of this film.
