In this one time class, students will learn how to use textual evidence when answering comprehension questions. They will learn the acronym tool, "R.A.C.E." (restate, answer, cite, explain). Students will practice using these steps as they answer text based comprehension questions. Students will use the graphic organizer provided as they work on this skill. They will also get a chance to come up with their own text based questions, allowing other students the chance to find evidence. This is a great course for students who need extra practice enhancing their written responses.

Hello, and welcome to Outschool! My name is Ms. Kristin. I am a licensed elementary school teacher with my Masters Degree in Elementary Education for grades 1-6. I absolutely love teaching! I have taught grades 3, 4, and 5 in a brick-and-mortar school for over eight years and have been teaching online, too, for the past four years. As a classroom teacher, I have become very familiar with elementary subjects for grades 1-5 and their corresponding standards in math, English, reading, writing, science, social studies, and test prep. Familiarity with different grade levels allows me to differentiate my instruction and guide students to higher levels of thinking as they master grade-level concepts and seek to enhance their skills. My lessons are based on Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.
