Cognitive Biases are thinking 'blind spots' which reduce the accuracy of our perceptions, decisions, and the conclusions we come to about information we are presented with. Our thinking, decision-making, and behaviour can be heavily influenced by such cognitive biases, and there are over 180 known examples of automatic 'short cuts' and default thinking modes, as well as ways that the brain copes with insufficient time or information, or information overload. Students will learn the names and features of several cognitive biases and understand how these can affect their own and others' thinking.
I completed a PhD in Psychology, with a focus on Cognitive Neuroscience and Visual Perception, giving me a thorough knowledge of Cognitive and Biological Psychology. I have been working as a full time online tutor for GCSE (UK age 14-16 curriculum) and A-level (UK age 16-18 curriculum) since February 2018.

This class will take an academic approach to examining some common psychological effects. In some sessions, concepts such as stereotyping, prejudice, authority and obedience, will be discussed with examples.
