In this lesson, we will be reading a story and creating pictures for our emotions. I will be reading this story with the help of my puppet, Chirp. We will be having discussions about the situations in the story. With these discussions, we will be able to talk about empathy: imagining how others would feel, based on how we would feel. We will talk about how to handle emotions in situations like this. We will also have a discussion about how to be a good friend and how to use emotions to make good choices, where it can be really easy to make bad choices. Students will be able to work together to problem solve about hypothetical situations they may face in school or even with siblings (such as not wanting to share or hurting someone's feelings unintentionally). We will also learn new words for emotions we might not know (such as frustration, jealousy, disgust, embarrassment). This can be a key component to understanding our emotions; having names for them.Together, we will learn to be mindful of others and recognize emotions in ourselves.
