Each lesson covers two new letter names and the phonics sound the letter makes. Every lesson is a stand alone lesson. Throughout this on-going class students will learn new sounds and practice using the sounds in reading and writing. Research shows that children that have explicit phonics instruction become stronger readers. Once children have a strong phonics foundation, they can focus on comprehension and learning from what they are reading. 

Taking this class over the summer will enable your child to start kindergarten ready to read. 

Each class we will learn through the following activities. 
- Alphabet Song
- Letter of the Day - name & sound
- Phonological Awareness - rhyme, alliteration, segmenting, etc.
- Listening - listen for the sound in words
- Writing -  uppercase and lowercase letter of the day
- Blending - read words with the new sound

I use songs and chants to make class engaging and fun for students. I believe that more learning happens when students are at ease and enjoying themselves. Each class we will sing, play, and also learn phonics! 

No specific phonics prior knowledge is required for class. It will be helpful if students know their alphabet song before signing up for this class. 

Your child will engage in learning that meets their specific needs. I will individualize the instruction to ensure your child's understanding of the concept(s). Whether your child needs assistance completing on grade level standards or excelling into the next grade's material, I will work with them to ensure they reach their full potential. 

Please choose the option that suits your child's learning needs.
Option 1: Parent provides specific math concept. I will design an interactive lesson to help your student reach mastery. 
Option 2: I will assess based on grade level standards and design a learning plan specifically tailored to your student. 
Option 3: Your child may bring school work and we will work through it together. 

* After enrolling in the class, please message me about which option you and your child would prefer. If you share your child's interests I will create a plan that includes any favorites (Ex: movie characters, animals,  colors) that they enjoy.
