Let's work on your flute playing! 

This class will be scheduled for charter schools, and those who wish to pre-pay in advance for a block of lessons. This class is a section of four weekly private lessons. It is for flutists at any age or playing level. In the first lesson, we will talk about the student's playing history and plans. Assignments will be made according to the student's level. Lessons will focus on the musician's individual needs:

Flute Basics - hand & body position, embouchure, breathing.
Tone - a good flute sound! This is the first thing we hear, and is very important to your flute playing.
Technique - scales, thirds, arpeggios, etc. These are the "building blocks" of music.
Exercises & Etudes - short exercises to build skills of reading and musicianship.
Literature - longer solo works for flute, excerpts from orchestral literature, duets, and fun songs.
Musicianship Skills - expression, phrasing, dynamics, rhythm, vibrato, tuning.

Private lessons will help guide the young musician as they learn to play the flute. For the more advanced flutist, lessons will help build skills needed to become a confident, independent musician. We will work on building good habits, fluency in music reading skills, and efficient playing technique. We work to build skill, but also remember that music is a passion! It is communication, and involves emotion and expression. I want to hear this in my student's playing, and to see them enjoy what they are doing.
