In this flex class, young learners will be introduced to a variety of interesting scientific topics that are found in many primary science curriculums. Emphasis will be on building and broadening learners' knowledge of the world, increasing vocabulary and strengthening English language skills, as well as creating connections with other learners. Through their interactions with each other, learners will gain a deeper appreciation of the diversity of our world as they share their unique perspectives and experiences. Each week I will provide a content-rich, educational, and engaging video which will teach the learners about the subject of the week. During the video, I will also provide prompts for active participation, such as action songs, questions, and activities that will keep their interest and guide their learning. I will also demonstrate, through video, how to complete the weekly worksheet, drawing activity, craft/project or experiment. I will post a minimum of 2 prompts per week that will encourage learners to interact with each other. Examples of these interactions are as follows: encouraging learners to respond with pictures of their worksheets or completed crafts/projects that other learners can learn from; completing a challenge and sharing the results within the classroom; participating in a demonstrated activity and sharing a photo or video to the classroom for other learners to see/watch; sharing something from their own experience that relates to the theme (a toy, an item from nature, a picture or story, etc.); or posting questions to each other in the classroom to further the discussion. I will respond to each learner's post, with the intention of creating connections that will inspire further interaction between learners.
