課堂經歷
~This class is designed to be joined at any time! Although we have been meeting for a few weeks already, each week is a new theme. The only aspect that builds upon each other is the letter and number of the week, although it affects very little. If you are interested, please join as soon as you want to! In this ongoing class, we will be meeting twice a week. The first class of the week, we will do math, movement, and science activities that are centered on the week's theme. We will also discuss that week's theme and learn the number of the week. The second class of the week, we will do art, prewriting, and music activities, as well as the letter of the week, working our way through the entire alphabet. Every activity will be related to the week's theme. For example, for the theme of colors, we will be making patterns out of colors for our math activity, do a color mixing art activity, and create a walking rainbow for science. I encourage lots of social interactions throughout the activities, especially having learners talk through what they are learning about with other learners. I also encourage a high amount of creativity and independence in activities, especially when it comes to art. I want learners to take what we do and make it their own, rather than just following a set guideline and being bound by those rules. I believe learners will learn more by making it personal. Learners need no prior knowledge other than some understanding of how to use tools such as crayons and markers., although I will adjust the difficulty of activities based on the level of the majority of learners in the class and offer modifications for those at a lower level. For example, if everyone is already writing words, we will write and spell words but I will offer a modification just practicing letters for those not writing yet. We will also be discussing the weather and days of the week in every class. If one of these days doesn't work for you for either of the classes, please let me know and we will try to work something out! IMPORTANT: I strive to make this class feel as normal as possible, meaning as close as possible to what an in-person preschool class would be. This means that this class has many more hands on, interactive activities than other classes because that is what they would experience in an in-person class. I am also a firm believer in children learning through experiences, not just virtual activities and teachers talking. That being said, it is super important to try to have as many of the supplies from the weekly list as possible. I try to keep the list simple and I always help with substitution ideas if you don't have something. Also if you are missing one or two things, it usually doesn't have a big effect. However, if your child comes to class with none of the supplies from the list, it does make it very difficult for them to have the full experience of the class as almost everything we do centers around our activities. Again, I only ask for these supplies to help your child have the best class experience and I can always find a way to make whatever you do have work. But it is very hard to make no supplies at all work and have your child still have a very good class experience. I appreciate that every family approaches holidays differently. In order to respect everyone's differences, holidays will be taught from a secular view and activities will be not controversial elements of the holiday. (For example, Halloween will be pumpkins, cats, bats (not scary), etc. Christmas will be snowmen, red and green, candy canes, etc.) Note for weeks that are off due to holidays: On the weeks that we don't have class due to holidays, do not worry about unsubscribing, you will not be charged for the weeks we don't have class.
學習目標
Learners will increase their knowledge of preschool level math, science, prewriting, art, letters, and numbers through activities related to a weekly theme, while also having the chance to increase social skills through getting to know other learners.
其他詳情
父母的引導和規範
There will be some movement activities involved in the class. These will not be strenuous and will be limited to activities such as jumping, spinning, dancing, pretending to fly, etc. These activities are not intense, however whenever there is any kind of movement, there is always a risk. I will let parents know during the class, before the activity, what kind of movement is involved and you have the choice to have your child not participate or to participate but supervise them.
There may also be times that scissors will be needed to cut things in class. Again, during each class, before the activity, I will let parents know if there is something that involves cutting. For older learners with the right skills, they will just need to be supervised while cutting. For younger learners, parents will need to cut things for them. It is up to your discretion whether you choose to cut or supervise them cutting with scissors.
供應清單
Basic craft supplies should be sufficient for most activities. A week before each class, I will post in the classroom a supply list for that week so they can be sure they have what they need. It will most often be things such as construction paper, glue, crayons, etc. There will usually also be a few things to have printed out.
