This course is preceded by Pre-Algebra C: Prep for Algebra I and is more of a refresher.

It continues the use of the following for those who need it:

 
Integers
Rational numbers
Equations
Like terms
Expressions
Word problems
Inequalities
Familiar formulas that include algebra
Graphing
Slope

Additional course of study if time is available:

Relationship between basic math, pre-algebra, Algebra I, and geometry
Definitions and descriptions of specific polygons like rectangles and squares
Lines and angles
Perimeter of polygons familiar and unfamiliar
Area of polygons 
Circumference of circles
Surface area of three-dimensional (3-D) figures
Volume of three-dimensional (3-D) figures, including liquids and solids

 
 
Homework
It will be assigned on each day that the class meets, logged for student and parent notification, and reviewed at the next meeting. About three to six hours per week should be allotted for it. Students should check their work for errors; the confidence of having the right answer is hard to beat.

NOTE: Please know that homework reinforces knowledge of the content and that not doing any makes it impossible to retain the information given.

Note-taking
In the spirit of producing independent and responsible students, notes should be taken during class. Without them, classwork and homework assignments can be difficult.

Classwork
This will provide the needed practice for the concepts taught in the lecture. Help with math problems will be available from the teacher and classmates while class is in session. Questions are always welcome, even after class.

Daily Review
The homework will be reviewed by going over the answers to each problem when class starts each day.

Review
There will be periodic reviews.

Teaching Style
Perfection is not required. Previous class rules introduced in earlier courses will still apply. Direct questions for discussion and interaction are standard.

Additional Information
Students who are at least 14 or have an IEP that allows it can use calculators. I will respect the decisions of parents who are against using them.

Those with unique learning requirements are welcome. Private sections may be recommended in order to give the appropriate attention to the students once class is underway but can also be requested.

My classes cover basic math and pre-algebra for teenagers with or without unique needs. There are two series available for that. Contact me with any concerns about whether your child is suited for the course content despite age or experience. Private classes are also available.

While educating K-12 marginalized and underserved youth, it wasn't long before I specialized in requests for math help due to demand. That was preceded by 16 years in STEM as a test, maintenance, and repair technician specializing in electricity, electronics, instrumentation, and automation for process control and military aviation.

It’s never too late to learn something no matter what anyone else says or thinks. A student is far more than mistakes that matter less and less over time.
 
As a kid, I used to hate math because I didn't have mastery of it. My mother was terrible at it but insisted that I do better. She won. I liked how useful math became. It's been working for me ever since, and I want my students to do at least as well.
