Students will learn that scat detection dogs are very helpful to veterinarians because they help find poop samples of various wild animals. Using the book, Poop Detectives, by: Ellen Lawrence, the students will learn that veterinarians use microscopes to examine poop. Much can be learned about the health of an animal by studying its poop. The important science words that will be covered are: endangered, lab, microscope, parasites, and veterinarian. - Spice Drops or another type of soft candy that comes in four different colors (about 10 of each color) - two Twizzlers or other similar candy - toothpicks (about 10) - paper - markers *If you do not have candy, or you prefer for your child to not eat candy, play-doh also works very well for the DNA project. They will still need toothpicks or a way to connect the play-doh pieces.
