This specific course is geared toward higher level thinking.  Each literature circle role is directly connected to the 11 elements of critical thinking: big ideas, rules, trends, patterns, language of the discipline, ethics, relationships over time, details, unanswered questions, across disciplines and multiple perspectives.  

Week 1:  Introductions to one another, the book/author and to Literature Circles and expectations.  

Week 2:  Read Chapter 1, pages 1-21 (21 pages) and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion.  

Week 2:  Read Chapters 2 and 3, pages 25-77  (52 pages) and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 

Week 4:  Read Chapters 4 and 5, pages 81 - 131 (50 pages) and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 

Week 5:  Read Chapters 6 and 7, pages 135 to 167 (32 pages) and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 

Week 6:   Read Chapters 8 and 9, pages 171 to 221 (50 pages) and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion. 

Week 7:  Read Chapters 10 and 11, pages 225 to 272 (47 pages) and complete you job assignment in preparation for class discussion.

The student will read approximately 45 pages per week and complete his/her "job" in order to be ready to present to the group each week.
