There are more than 800 different types of Pokémon in the form of cards, TV shows, and games. How did the Pokémon creators come up with their ideas? Some are based on mythology! In this course, we'll explore some Pokémon that might have been inspired by the monsters and gods of Norse Mythology, as well as some references to Viking culture and history.

Each lesson includes a recorded presentation, as well an extension activity that allows for deeper exploration of the topic and student interaction. In the final lesson, students can create their own Pokémon, based on a creature from Norse Mythology that has not inspired any Pokémon yet.

Please note that this is not meant to be a comprehensive overview of the Vikings or Norse Mythology. Instead, our focus will be on the aspects that overlap with Pokémon. Students don't need any prior knowledge of Pokémon, Vikings, or Norse Mythology to enroll in this class, but it will certainly enhance their enjoyment of the material.

This is a self-paced course; each lesson contains one recording plus extension activities to expand your learning beyond the recording. All extension activities are optional and at the discretion of the parent.
