In this class, students build their literary analysis skills by reading a new poem each week. Each week, we will read a new poem and analyze it together following a flexible approach that allows students to focus on the aspects of the poem they find the most interesting. We will explore the vocabulary, language features, and themes in each poem, and annotate it using Google Jamboard. Students who attend this class regularly will build knowledge about a wide range of classic literary short...
- Students will develop knowledge of a range of poetry, especially poems that they are likely to encounter references to in the future. - Students will learn a range of approaches to analyzing poetry, and build confidence in using these skills. - Students will build confidence in sharing their ideas and discussing conflicting ideas about texts with others.

Some poems may occasionally contain some shocking or controversial material, and this material often provides rich ground for discussion. Parents are invited to look over the poems listed in the description and skip any classes with poems they do not want their child to discuss.
