To begin class the students will review how to use a place value chart to represent numbers. We will review the vocabulary words equation, digit, number, groups and value. We will then jump into learning how to subtract numbers! The students will use their place value charts to draw or use manipulatives to represent the biggest number in the subtraction problem ( The top/first number for this lesson). Students will need paper and a pencil. A white board works perfectly if you have one available.
