個人化家庭學校課程計劃，1-6 年級

In this class, students meet with me to determine an individualized curriculum in Grade 1-6 material.  During class, I perform informal assessments as we play math games, discuss books the student is reading, and share writing material.  Upon completion of the class, I provide parents with a Personalized Learning Plan:  a full year curriculum plan tailored just for their student. 

CLASS STRUCTURE
My assessment technique is relaxed and informal.  Students usually feel like we're just hanging out instead of like they're being tested. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I can usually tell fairly quickly where students are in their reading, writing, and math learning journeys.  

(20 minutes) During the first part of class we play math games.  While this is fun for the students, it allows me to assess and determine important math skills so I can place them in the right level.  

(10 minutes) Next, the student and I discuss favorite books, difficult books, and books they are currently reading. They'll also have a chance to read me some of their favorite parts.  All this allows me to determine approximate reading level.
  
(20 minutes) The last part of the class is for students to share their writing skills with me.  I give students a quick, fun writing prompt (such as:  What if you woke up tomorrow and there was an elephant standing in your driveway instead of your car?)  Both the student and I spend a few minutes writing and then we share what we wrote.  By participating in the exercise myself, students usually feel less pressure to write perfectly and are more apt to have fun.  In this way I can determine approximate writing levels.  

PERSONALIZED LEARNING PLANS
After our in-person meeting I provide a Personalized Learning Plan for the student, which includes (1) academic level approximations, (2) next steps in your student's learning path, and (3) placement in my current Outschool classes in reading, writing, Dimensions (Singapore) Math, science, and social studies.  Enrollment in Outschool classes is completely optional, but will include up to 20% off listed tuition.

ABOUT ME
I am a certified elementary (K-6) teacher with over 20 years experience homeschooling my 4 children, teaching in a variety of settings, writing curriculum, and running an in-person microschool.  For over 2 years I have taught many classes on Outschool, and I am an expert at engaging students in online learning. My approach to teaching is to meet my students wherever they are in their learning journey.
