Because reading should be as easy as breathing - now there's AIR. 
Accelerated, Interactive Reading (AIR) is the solution to get your child excited about reading and full of confidence - FAST!
Get ahead, catch up or move non-readers to readers gaining more than one year's skills in only months.

Students will learn letter/sound correspondence, blending sounds together to form words and skills to decode new words through incremental, systematic phonics instruction. While there is no background knowledge required for this course, an individual diagnostic placement test is required at no additional cost.

Participants will complete an average of 1 lesson per 40-minute session. Independent assignments are an integral part of instruction and must be completed before the next scheduled session. Students are evaluated daily via verbal participation and completed written exercises. Benchmark Mastery tests are provided to be sure necessary skills are attained and retained. 

*IMPORTANT! PLEASE NOTE: 
1. Please contact the instructor BEFORE registering for this course. A FREE prerequisite test is required before class acceptance.
2. Classes are formed according to placement test results.

Students are expected to attend all classes. Students may view recordings in the event of absence. Make-up one-on-one sessions and extra tutorial sessions can be scheduled at additional cost.

Weekly Session Topics/Skills:
Week 1: 
Word Attack Skills: Hear and say sounds (such as: a, d, t, h, e, th, ee, f, i); match sounds to letters (such as: i, a, d, m, r, s, t, e); say words (such as: am, meet, ram, rat, seem, sat, at, eat, am, mad) read words (such as: me, meet, ram, sat, sad, rat, see, mad, at, am, ad, sam)
Worksheet exercises: Write the letter for the sound heard (such as: i, r, m, e, t, a, s, d); word reading; word completion; word copying
Support Activities: matching and copying sounds; matching and writing words; match words and complete them, write write words from dictation (such that: ham, this, hat, hit); letter find - circle all the given letter or letter combinations (such as: n, th, s, etc.) in a line of letters.
Reading Checkouts: Read sets of practiced words individually, with no more than one error. 
Benchmark Test: Say words - auditory only (such as: list, mats, reed, last); Sound out then read words (such as: fins, sand, rims, meet, that) with no mistakes. 

Week 2: 
Word Attack Skills: Say sounds (such as: sh, d, h, a, t, e, c, n, i); say sounds (such as: a, d, m, r, s, t, e); Say words (such as: win, wean, an, in, fast, fats, fist, am, win, will) Read words (such as: the, he, seem, ran, she, seen, can, rams)
Worksheet exercises: Write the letter for the sound heard (such as: c, i, sh, n, e, t, a, h, s, d); word reading; word completion; word copying
Support Activities: matching and writing words; match words and complete them, write write words from dictation (such that: ham, this, hat, hit); letter find - circle the all the given letter or letter combinations (such as: sh, th, h, t etc.) in a line of letters.

*PLEASE READ - An important note about the realities of the online classroom and my particular teaching methods: Due to the accelerated nature of this course, placement testing is imperative. Provided PDF materials will need to be printed and compiled into a 3 ring binder before the first session of class. All independent assignments must be completed by the next session date. Students who miss sessions will fall quickly behind. Please contact me immediately if any problems arise. My classes have a distinct interactive component. Students are required to respond either by voice or movement a great deal during every session. Every response called for is actually an assessment; and allows me to see whether concepts have been grasped or if re-teaching or additional practice is necessary before moving on. The nature of our wonderful online space sometimes makes this assessing quite the challenge. Much like a cell phone, ambient background noise is amplified in the online classroom. Talking, babies crying, dogs barking etc. become difficult hurdles to overcome. Additionally, we at Outschool serve students world-wide. Therefore, our audience is often on different web speeds over vastly different distances, where lag time and echoes can also hinder instruction. Because of all of the above, please know that I may find it necessary to mute students' microphones. Also know that if I must do so, it is only in attempt to hear (and see) all responses. It is not the CHILD that is being muted, but the ambient noise, echo or lag - and never as a penalty. All that said, in order to assure the best instruction for everyone, as well as allow me to assess the work of your children, please have them work in the quietest space available. Thank you for your understanding :)

Workbook, worksheets, midterm and final exams (all in PDF format) will be provided by teacher at no extra cost. 
Students should have a sharpened pencil with an eraser to work with. No pens, crayons or markers are permitted. 
These should be printed and compiled before the first day of class in a 3-ring binder.
