The learning goals for this course will look critically at the U.S. military Operation Eagle Claw and how this failed American hostage rescue attempt led to a small-scale disaster in the Iranian desert in April of 1980. This class will focus on the political issues, leaders, and military tactics used during this hostage crisis. It will detail the military action including the use of four different service branches trying to come together for this daring rescue attempt. Additionally, there will be an attached note taking document with pictures to help the student learn and retain the information. The student may download the document and use it to take notes during the class. Also, there will be a short video to provide background information relevant to this class. The desire of the teacher is to engage the students with questions and dialogue to help them further learn about the material. There will be no assigned homework in this class and the teaching style will be interactive discussion using power point.
