For beginner students: 
We will talk about the instrument and some basics such as hand position, and finger numbers, and suggest what books might be a good fit. We will also start playing a few simple melodies and experiment with some exercises. 
Having a book is not necessary for this class. Using a piano or a digital keyboard should be fine.
For Students with previous experience playing the piano :
We will go over what pieces and books the students have worked on. I will ask the students to play any pieces they like to play and this is a great way for me as a teacher to understand what methods/ books/pieces the students have been working on and what level they are. Then we will talk about what goals the students have in mind for taking piano lessons for example if they are preparing for a competition, would like to learn a certain piece, or getting ready for an exam. I will also explain my teaching methods and philosophy and talk about my experience in teaching.
