In this one-time class, we will make a real miniature gingerbread house! With only a few common materials, we will construct and decorate our own edible holiday decorations. First, we will observe and discuss ideas for inspiration. Next, we will begin to secure the walls and roof of the house to the base structure. By doing this, we will learn about geometric forms such as cubes, rectangular prisms, pyramids, and/or triangular prisms. Once the walls and roof are secure, we will begin to...
- This lesson provides several positive learning outcomes. By creating a unique gingerbread house, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of forms and architecture in our world around us. Other learning outcomes include positive communication and critical thinking skills. Group discussion during the presentation and activity promotes positive communication, as does sharing the artworks in the concluding discussion. Additionally, the learners will utilize critical thinking skills by applying, analyzing, and synthesizing their prior knowledge and experiences into the class discussion as well as into the artwork they create. -small milk carton, food can, or any other item to be used as the base structure on a plate -graham crackers or any other food item that can be used to build the walls around the base structure -frosting or any other food item to stick the walls to the base structure -decorative candy or any other food item that can be used to decorate the house
