In this 30 minute private session, I will perform a thorough math assessment to determine your child’s strengths and weaknesses in first grade math concepts. I will asses their understanding of and ability to perform several computations using addition and subtraction with multiples of ten, The ability to solve for the unknown as well as known will be assessed. The ability to count forward and backward, skip count, compare numbers using greater than and less than, read and write numbers, reason and understanding of the associative and commutative properties will also be addressed in the assessment. Measurement, money, time, name and create shapes, solve word problems and show their thinking process are also components of this comprehensive and thorough assessment. Within 24 hours of completion, I will provide a written performance report to the parent/guardian with my observations and performance results. I hope to meet your child soon!

Pencil, paper, 10 paper clips, coins: 1 each of penny, nickel, dime, and quarter Kinex if you have them so they can create 2D and 3D shapes, if not, please have the following 3D shapes a cube, a sphere(ball), a pyramid/cone (3D triangle) and a rectangular prism for example a Kleenex box or pencil box.

Hi Parents! Thank you for your interest in my classes. I offer a wide variety of classes within the life skills, language arts, math, and science content areas. My most popular classes are private math tutoring, shoe tying, introduction to writing and a variety of creative arts classes. These classes are designed for students in elementary through grade 6. I have been a teacher for over thirty years. I have taught students from many cultures and backgrounds. I have taught all content subjects in every elementary grade as well as 6th grade Language Arts. I have taught students on line, in public, parochial, homebound, after school, and in enrichment settings. To date, I have taught over 8,000 virtual on-line classes! I am a licensed teacher, administrator, instructional coach, and also have my academically gifted certification. I earned my masters in school administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a highly-qualified bachelors in K-6 from Elon College/University. In addition, I have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education. How we learn and the stages we move through are always taken into account when creating and delivering instruction. In my classroom, I use a wide variety of instructional strategies and research based methodologies to meet the individual learning styles and interests of my students. I use inquiry based learning and believe students learn best when their learning styles and interests are part of the classroom experience. Relationships are an essential part of a students success both in and out of the classroom. Building strong relationships with my students is at the core of my instructional approach. I am a lifelong learner and want to inspire my love for learning with all of my students, in hopes they will be too. Teaching is my passion but in my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, embroidery, spending time outdoors and being on the water. I am happiest when playing with my eight year old grandson Alex and our adorable dog Gracie. I hope you will check out my catalog of classes.
