This ongoing class will focus on oil pastel techniques and projects. Each 55 minute class will include any needed art lessons and techniques to complete an oil pastel painting together, step-by-step. To encourage creativity there will also be lots of choices and options to allow each artist’s work to be unique. Subjects include landscapes, still lifes, and abstracts. Learners will gain new skills and plenty of practice using oil pastels so they can use the skills learned to create further art on their own if they wish.
I have been teaching children in both formal and informal settings for over 30 years and currently teach Art and ELA classes for homeschool students privately in addition to my Outschool classes. I love teaching art because I love to foster creativity and encourage young artists to enjoy time creating with their peers.
• Pencil and eraser • A set of at least 24 oil pastels • Ear Swabs • Heavy weight white or black construction paper or mixed media paper • White correction fluid pen • Ebony or 10B pencil • A piece of poster board for a mat to protect workspace (optional) • Baby or disinfectant wipes for hands (optional)
Oil Pastels are a great medium for children but they can be a bit messy. I recommend that learners cover their table with a piece of poster board and have a few baby wipes for cleaning hands. Please note: If time allows, the Zoom white board may be used at the end of class to play a game. This is a part of the Zoom program.
