Students will compare and contrast characters and events in the story. Students will summarize the chapters and the story. Students will look for descriptive details in the story to form pictures in their mind. Students will learn about and look for examples of different literary devices in the story. Students will learn the importance of friendship and kindness through the characters in the story. Students will learn a little about geography in the USA.
I have been an elementary classroom teacher for 18 years. I have taught this novel study many times to my 3rd graders in Reading.
