*******USE COUPON CODE MEEKSDISCOUNT15 FOR $15 OFF******* This is a SELF-PACED class. There will be no live classes, which allows students the flexibility to go at their own pace. I will post videos along with learning activities to reinforce the math concepts. These are the math standards we will be learning and practicing. We will use a variety of objects found on our nature walks to practice these math concepts. ☀️ Lesson 1: Counting 🌲 Lesson 2: Geometry 🦋 Lesson 3: Patterns 🐛 Lesson 4: Measurement and Data 🌸 Lesson 5: Addition and Subtraction For each lesson, students are expected to go on a nature walk and collect different natural objects that will be used as our math manipulatives (examples include rocks, sticks, flowers, grass, leaves, etc). These nature walks can be done in all seasons and in all types of weather. Please dress appropriately for extreme weather. The videos will cover the math concepts as well as supplementary activities and music. With each lesson I will provide a BINGO sheet with 24 activities that coincide with the week's math standard and ways to interact with nature. Students can choose the activities that interest them and meet their level. They can try to complete five activities in a row to earn a BINGO. Students will post pictures in the classroom of the various activities they complete. For students who complete enough activities to earn a BINGO, I will send them a personalized prize! What is the benefit of learning through nature? Nature provides opportunities for discovery, creativity, and problem-solving. Children are able to learn by doing and expirementing. They also become more motivated and self-directed, and are more likely to care for the Earth. Studies show that spending time in nature can relieve stress and anxiety. It can also increase our attention capacity, creativity, and our ability to connect with other people. "Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books." --John Lubbock
學習目標
Students will learn how to count, identify geometric shapes, create patterns, take measurements, analyze data, and add and subtract.

遵循 Teacher-Created 課程標準
與 Common Core State Standards (CCSS)對齊5 課程
超過 5 週課 1:
Counting & Cardinality
We will practice counting groups of objects found in nature. We will learn that there is an ordered sequence of counting numbers, and we will practice using one-to-one correspondence. We will also practice identifying numbers and forming the numeral using objects in nature.
課 2:
Geometry
We will learn about and find 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes in nature. We will identify by name different shapes of various sizes and in various orientations. We will model and create shapes using objects in nature.
課 3:
Patterns & Symmetry
We will take objects that we found in nature and create different kinds of patterns. We will explore patterns found in music. A specific pattern found in nature and in many living things is called symmetry. We will look for symmetry in nature and create our own symmetrical pieces of art with objects found in nature.
課 4:
Measurement & Data
We will classify objects into given categories with like characteristics and then compare amounts of each group. We will also measure different objects with unconventional measuring instruments found in nature such as sticks, plants, rocks, etc.

I am a certified teacher and taught kindergarten for five years in the public school system. My students always enjoyed learning with tangible objects and math manipulatives as they learned math concepts. They did best learning with concrete objects before moving to abstract concepts. Combining hands-on learning with nature helps keep interest and motivates students to learn.
