Prerequisites: Learners should already know how to read music and play an instrument or sing before enrolling in this class. This is not a Performance class, but learners need a practical knowledge of music to be able to apply this skill. The circle of fifths is one of those music theory tools that can be truly daunting at first, but once you know how it works, you'll find ways to use it over and over again when you're learning a piece of music. Students will practice drawing a circle of fifths and use it to analyze pieces of music.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree in classical piano performance. I also have Master's degrees in music history and music theory, as well as doctoral certification in historical music theory and piano performance. I have taught music from PK-12 and my experience has helped me to create classes that help learners get excited about classical music. I have a passion for presenting classical music in ways that get learners engaged in what they are listening to.
