Beginner - Intermediate 等級
This Level 1 Music Theory class is great for students looking to explore more advanced musical concepts. We'll look at topics including majors scales, the circle of fifths, and intervals over a series of 8 lessons. Learners should have completed either my Intro to Music Theory class or be able to read music in both treble and bass clef. 8 lessons//8 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Major scales and Key Signatures- We'll discuss how we build major scales and key signatures. We'll also discuss how key signatures help us to identify scales. - Activities: Interactive Nearpod video with intermittent multiple choice and open ended questions. Nearpod review activities for students to identifying scales and key signatures. Nearpod collaborate board for students to post either a scale or key signature of their choosing.Week 2Lesson 2Chromatic Scale and Intervals- We'll discuss how to build a chromatic scale on any note. We'll also look at basic intervals - Interactive Nearpod video with intermittent multiple choice and open ended questions. Nearpod review activities for students to review and identify intervals. Nearpod collaborate board for students to post their chromatic scales.Week 3Lesson 3Circle of Fifths- We'll discuss how to create the Circle of Fifths in both treble and bass clefs. - Interactive Nearpod video with intermittent multiple choice and open ended questions. Nearpod review activities for students to practice filling in a Circle of Fifths.Week 4Lesson 4Intervals and Transposition- We'll continue our discussion of intervals, discussing how to identify major, minor, augmented, diminished, and perfect intervals. We'll then use that knowledge to help us transpose music from one key to another. - Interactive Nearpod video with intermittent multiple choice and open ended questions. Nearpod review activities for students to practice identifying intervals. Nearpod collaborate board for students to post their transposition.Week 5Lesson 5More Note Values and Time Signatures- This class will introduce sixteenth notes, sixteenth rests, and dotted eighth-note rhythms. We'll also take a look at the difference between Common Time and Cut Time. - Interactive Nearpod video with intermittent multiple choice and open ended questions. Nearpod review activities for students to practice matching notes to their note values in Common and Cut Time.Week 6Lesson 6Even More Note Values and Time Signatures- In this class, we'll discuss 3/8 and 6/8 time signatures. We'll also introduce eighth-note triplets. - Interactive Nearpod video with intermittent multiple choice and open ended questions. Nearpod review activities for students including multiple choice and open ended questions.Week 7Lesson 7Triads- We'll begin building triads, focusing on Primary chords - Interactive Nearpod video with intermittent multiple choice and open ended questions. Nearpod review activities for students to practice building and identifying primary chords.Week 8Lesson 8Dominant 7th Chord- We'll discuss Dominant 7th chords and their use. At the end of this course students should feel comfortable creating major scales, triads, and dominant 7th chords. They should also feel comfortable with more complex rhythm patterns (sixteenth notes, sixteenth rests, etc.) and time signatures (Cut time, 3/8, and 6/8).

Assessments in this class can be used as formally or informally as students would like. Interactive questions asked throughout the lesson videos allow students to gauge their understanding of the material. The summary exercises at the end of each lesson allow students to use the information they've learned.提供的成績
Grades are offered by request at the completion of the class. Students should have completed all summary exercises before requesting a grade. Nearpod reports can also be generated for students at their request.
Learners should feel comfortable reading music in both treble and bass clef.
While all course content will be provided in class, students may want to also have a copy of Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory Complete so they can follow along and have more written practice. Homework assignments will be given through Nearpod for students to complete.
