Believing that all learners are capable of success is not just a byproduct of my BA in Special Education and Elementary Education; I genuinely believe that each student has the ability to succeed when provided with the supports and resources necessary to help them hurdle any barriers to academic growth and achievement. I hold teaching certificates in the state of Michigan for K-5 Elementary Education (K-8 Self Contained Classroom) as well as K-12 Learning Disabilities. I embrace trauma informed classroom practices and have easily adapted these to the virtual environment. I believe in respecting all students and welcoming as they chose to join. I am a "safe place" for the underserved and undervalued populations.
Having worked in education since 2016, I have experience in both special education and general education, and have worked with students in Michigan from second grade through twelfth grade. I have successfully supported students in every academic area. In the past two years, I've added M.Ed to my title with a master's in Learning Design and Educational Technology, and I've been teaching virtually since March of 2020. I am trained in culturally responsive teaching and learning, and I understand how culture impacts the human brain.
All courses I teach will emphasize primary sources from diverse voices, to ensure no historical inaccuracies are perpetuated. Harmful language towards any culture will not be tolerated.
In addition to teaching, I am a writer with columns and articles published in two local newspapers. I also have experience working as a certified election inspector in the state of Michigan for over twenty years.
Let's learn together!
