I will use the various teaching strategies that I have developed over the seventeen years of teaching guided writing. Students choose their own topic and genre. Students will learn the criteria they need for each genre. Here is an overview of the lesson. LESSON FORMAT -introduce and define the components of a a strong essay (informative, persuasive, opinion) -show and model exemplary introductory and conclusion statements to identify exceptional writing skills -I model writing by using an organizer to guide students on the structure of an essay -the student and I will develop their own writing plan using strategies I modeled with the organizer -students write on their own with my guidance -share out student work at the end

-Students develop an introductory and conclusion statement
-Students will become familiar with the structure of each genre based on guided writing and organizers
-Students develop their own writing plan
-Students write their essay with strong sentences (including linking words)
