This 8-week course will engage students in discussion of four short stories, various writing styles, and various literary techniques. Students will have assigned reading to complete prior to each class (except first class). I will post the readings and homework for students to complete prior to the next session. The class will be a Socratic seminar, reliant on the participation and preparation of attendees. Students will be encouraged to share their interpretations of the story. As we...
At the end of the course, the student will be able to: -Describe major characters and plot developments of each short story -Analyze the text for figurative language (i.e. Symbolism, flashback, conflict, mood, tone, etc.) -Explain major themes in each story -Describe the writing style of each author -Verbally articulate their opinions of the short stories -Analyze the figurative language used by an author through a written culminating assignment
The teacher will provide PDF of short stories and guided reading questions. Materials will be uploaded into the classroom tab.
